Scholarship Spotlight: Mary Roalstad

Meet Mary Roalstad, one of our incredible ESS students majoring in Environmental & Sustainability Studies and Geoscience.

"Last summer, I studied ecology in both Montana and Patagonia with the Honors Ecology and Legacy Program. The experience broadened my understanding of global land conservation. Navigating a symbiotic relationship with nature requires deep comprehension of both science and culture. Following course completion, I traveled to the countryside of Argentina to work on an organic farm. Exploring modern fieldwork and local traditions have been formative in my understanding of earth systems and ecosystem dynamics. Woman climbing through rock canyon wall

Additionally, the confidence that I have built within myself as an international traveler, a woman in the outdoors, and a scientist has transferred to many other areas of my life. This summer, I secured an internship to gain hands-on experience as a resource manager. I hope to attend graduate school, researching local hydrology with fieldwork components."
